Overview
A consumer-advocacy site I built and run. Its Second Opinion tool walks a homeowner through a four-step check of a contractor quote across 14 trades, backed by New Jersey pricing guides.
The challenge
A homeowner holding one quote has no way to tell if it's fair. The tool had to be fast, need no account, keep people's information private, and be honest about what its pricing data is and isn't.
The approach
- Designed a four-step flow: type of work, location, quote details, then trade-specific questions
- Made the assessment run entirely in the browser, so nothing the visitor types leaves their device
- Kept the pricing engine transparent and rules-based, with sample data clearly labeled
- Wrote substantive New Jersey pricing guides instead of thin pages built only to rank in search

The outcome
A working tool covering 14 trades, and the clearest example of the kind of calculator and decision tool I build for clients.
